Vera’s 7th grade teachers asked us to write a letter about our child. I love this kid so much! I couldn’t help but share all her amazing qualities!!
Hey 7th grade teachers!
We are excited to see what the year brings for Vera. Vera is a strong-willed vibrant kid with so much amazing potential. Vera is very intuitive. She has a strong ability to read a room and form opinions about a situation quickly. She will catch your accidental side glance, momentary frustration, or underlying humor of a situation. She is quick to see things but doesn’t always read the situation correctly. Because of this you may get a strong reaction from her about something and wonder where it came from. She saw your facial reaction to an event, but maybe didn’t pin it on the correct thing. Does that make sense?
She’s a no BS kid. She’ll see right through it. She’s also a student that if she believes in the plan, in the work, in the idea, she’s all in. She vibrant, energetic, detailed oriented. She has an amazing ability for organization, and a visual learner.
She’s also a middle school girl, holding back from speaking up, to “fit in.” I tell her at home to ask questions, raise her hand, get more information but often her embarrassment of drawing attention to herself will win out from getting clarity on a homework assignment. She expects high grades of herself. She works hard. So if there is something she didn’t do right, it is probably because she missed the explanation of the assignment. She is easily distracted by friends. If you notice this feel free to move her seat in a way that doesn’t draw attention to “her” being the issue.
Vera is extremely sensitive. She comes across tough but she takes words, actions and feedback VERY personally. Too personally. One strong comment from a teacher can impact how she feels about a person and it takes a while for her to regain that trust.
Vera is sensitive to noise, temperature, clothing. She doesn’t show it like she used to when she was young, but these sensitivities can sometimes impact her reactions to things. Spending too much time in a loud classroom, or next to an a challenging pear will slowly bother her until she has an over reaction.
Vera is everything I want a young woman to be. She’s strong, vibrant, athletic, hard working, and determined. If we can work together to guide her in the right direction, there is no stopping that child from what she wants to do! (The other night we caught her taking her window AC out of her window, on her own, at 10pm! … she’s frustratingly unstoppable!)
